Cameron M. Glaws, Managing Partner
Cameron Glaws is a co-founder of Brown-Glaws Contractors, an unlimited General Contractor licensed builder with deep experience in custom homes and historic renovation projects. He serves as a well respected liaison for property owners and the regional Historic Preservation community.
Mr. Glaws graduated from the College of Charleston with a degree in Historic Preservation and Community Planning. Over the last 16 years he has worked on dozens of historic renovations and is consistently featured in regional and national publications for his expertise and preservation ethic. Mr. Glaws’ work has been awarded prestigious recognition for his development of some of Charleston’s most significant historic properties.
Arthur "Buddy" Green, III, Managing Partner
Buddy Green began his real estate-oriented career at The John Crosland Company with the development model of its initial for-sale multifamily division. Beginning in 1982, he became one of Charlotte’s most active historic property renovation developers. He has served as CEO of Birch Street Capital Corporation in Charlotte since 1993. Upon the formation of Birch Street Capital, Mr. Green expanded the business model to include extensive real estate, private equity, and historic renovation businesses. Birch Street Capital is responsible for some of Charlotte and Savannah, GA’s most significant historic renovations. Its merchant banking projects included South Carolina’s largest acute psychiatric provider and investment tax credit generating Palmetto Seed Capital Corporation.
Mr. Green served as a medical corpsman in the US Army. He attended the Governor’s School of North Carolina, Western Carolina University, and the Wharton School. Also, he has served on over dozen boards, and has lectured to local EMBA programs.
James L. (“Jay”) Brown, IV, Partner
Jay Brown is a co-founder of Brown-Glaws Contractors, an unlimited licensed general contractor. In the past 25 years Jay has managed and developed hundreds of top quality, unique real estate assets. His extensive knowledge and background in Mount Vernon Partner’s primary markets of Charlotte and Charleston create a distinct element of market understanding not available to any competitors.
Mr. Brown is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture. He has successfully managed and developed urban infill projects in Charlotte and Charleston including historic renovations, land development, multi family housing, and prestigious eight figure single family residential products. As one of the most well-respected asset developers in the Mount Vernon Partner’s primary markets, Mr. Brown brings to the company a significant value of reputation and a major market network.
Joe Palen, Fund Advisor
Joe Palen is a noted, active national consultant for financial firms throughout their Fund’s life cycle. Mr. Palen worked for McKinsey & Co in its Implementation Group in the Atlanta office. In Charlotte he assisted Capitala Group in helping determine Fund prospective investment valuations.
Mr. Palen graduated from The United Sates Military Academy at West Point with a BS in Economics. After graduation he served as a pilot of F-16 fighter jets. He was deployed in active combat roles in Iraq and Libya as well as senior management roles in South Korea and the entire United States. After twelve years of military service he enrolled in Harvard Business School and earned an MBA.
Anthony Harrigan, III, Fund Advisor
Mr. Harrigan is the Managing Member of IBG Partners, LLC which he co-founded in 1995. Mr. Harrigan founded the predecessor firm, IBG Development, Inc., in 1987. He has been responsible for the acquisition, development and financing activities of the firm for projects in excess of 1.2 million square feet of commercial office property plus over 1,000 Class A residential units with a gross value of $1.5 billion. Mr. Harrigan is responsible for the overall management and direction of the firm and the maintenance of its primary investor relationships. Projects have included the development and investment in hospitality projects, commercial office, residential, for-sale condominiums, marinas and land development / lot sale programs. Prior to founding the firm, Mr. Harrigan spent four years with Prudential-Bache Securities, Inc. in the Real Estate Corporate Finance Division and seven years with Mellon Bank and Toronto Dominion Bank engaged in debt structuring, construction financing and joint venture activities.
Mr. Harrigan is a graduate of the College of Charleston and received an MBA from The Graduate School of Management at Boston University.
Richard E. Marsh, Jr., Fund Advisor
Rick began his business career in banking working for First Union National Bank (now Wells Fargo) as an analyst in the Trust Investment Department valuing closely-held businesses. Rick also earned his CPA certificate in North Carolina while working in the Tax Department for Touche Ross & Co. (now Deloitte).
Mr. Marsh has practiced law in North Carolina for nearly four decades. He began his career practicing law as the sole attorney in the Washington, D.C. office of a large Southeastern specialty tax practice. After being promoter to a partner in that firm, Rick started his own firm, where he has practiced for nearly three decades, focusing his practice on tax and estate planning solutions for clients as they organize, acquire, manage, grow, and dispose of their wealth and businesses.
Mr. Marsh has held a number of leadership roles in teaching and professional development for attorneys, accountants, and other financial professionals. In addition to teaching at the university and law school level regarding economics, financial planning, accounting and estate planning, Rick has lead hundreds of professional educational seminars for the American Bar Association Tax Section, the AICPA, the ABA Section on Real Property and Probate law, the North Carolina Bar Tax Section, the Mortgage Bankers Association of the Carolinas, the Commercial Board of Realtors, the Income Property Association, the Commercial Life Underwriters (CLU) and numerous other such professional organization. Rick has chaired the ABA Tax Section’s Committee on Sales Exchanges and Basis and its subcommittee on Non-recognition (Like Kind Exchanges and similar) Transactions, and was the Vice-Chair of its Task Force on Capital Gains. Rick is a North Carolina board-certified attorney in estate planning and probate law.
Rick earned his Bachelor of Arts at Bucknell University, his MBA from the Kenan-Flagler School at the University of North Carolina, his JD from the University of North Carolina School of Law, and an LLM at Georgetown University. He is a member of the Bar in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida, a Certified Public Accountant in North Carolina, a member of the American Bar Association Tax Section, Business Section, and Real Property and Probate Section, and a member of the North Carolina Tax Section Council, the governing body of that section.
Tracy W. Lee, Managing Director, Investor Relations
Tracy Lee began his career in banking working for NCNB (now Bank of America) and was involved in relocating the commercial lending platform from their Charlotte headquarters to branch locations throughout the city. Shortly after, Mr. Lee opened an Asset Based Leasing subsidiary in Charlotte for a large Savings & Loan from South Carolina. Me. Lee saw an opportunity when the S&L crisis hit to buy the leasing portfolio from a few of the local S & Ls and start his office for a national equipment leasing company in Charlotte. For the next decade, he continuously held the record for office production, customer service rating and profitability while significantly increasing production and profitability of other company offices throughout the country.
Mr. Lee returned to his banking career when he became the National Sales Manager, then eventually Co-President of RBC Centura Leasing (now PNC Bank). This position led to him opening an equipment leasing subsidiary for First Charter Bank in order to diversify their portfolio by adding more asset based loans (now Fifth Third Bank) where he served as President of that subsidiary.
From there, Mr. Lee purchased a portion of an independently owned leasing company where he served as the CEO, COO and CFO for over a decade, eventually assuming the CFO role for a distribution business he had previous experience with. There he spent 4 years growing the company and raising capital to support its successful growth, before deciding to change the direction of his career and join the Mount Vernon Partners team. His knowledge of tax credits for real estate projects and his experience in raising capital fit with the company’s direction and newly formed Fund.
Mr. Lee graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Administration in Finance and Marketing from Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
Krystle Macenka, Director, Marketing & Communications
Krystle Macenka is the Founder & CEO of Red Willow Group, LLC, a firm specializing in marketing, communications and events in Charlotte, NC. Prior to starting her own company, Ms. Macenka served as Events Director, North America and Senior Manager of Marketing at American Stock Transfer & Trust Company, LLC, a financial firm in NYC, for 8 years.
Ms. Macenka has a double major in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing & Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
